Burera Mayor gives stern warning to drug traffickers

The Mayor Burera District Florence Uwambajemariya has warned anyone who may be dealing in drug trafficking and consumption to desist from such conduct otherwise, they risk facing the long arm of the law.

Mayor Uwambajemaria was speaking on August 22, after a public destruction of an assortment of illegal drugs and alcoholic drinks seized in police operations recently.

Officials say that the destroyed drugs were seized as they were being trafficked into Rwanda through porous borders.

She said that the district administration will not allow the population to go to the waste due to illicit drug consumption or trade.

  

Mayor Uwambajemaria also urged police and local administration leaders to commence joint operations to bring to book drug trafficking and all related lawlessness.

She said excessive consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs are responsible for most cases of domestic violence and family breakdown.

According to the District Police Commander (DPC) Superintendent Of Police (SP) Alex Fata, the illegal goods which were disposed of in Rusarabuye sector Ndago cell Kirambo village are estimated to cost about Rwf 4million.

Substances destroyed include about 1.000 liters of Kanyanga, several dozens of blue sky, chief, chase and living Waragi and African gin.

SP Fata said most culprits were arrested, some of them already serving varied prison sentences and thanked area residents for the providing information on the dealers.
