Burera: Community Policing Committees discuss on reinforcing security

Sixty members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) of Kinyababa sector in Burera district met on July 23 to evaluate their policing performance and to look for ways of reinforcing safety and security in their area.

The CPCs shared work experiences and views on how to deal with the policing challenges that still exist.

Jean Damascene Ndayambaje, one of the CPC members in Kinyababa observed that there is need to improve in their policing activities like identifying places where most crimes are committed so as to ease in knowing and apprehending suspected wrongdoers.

“This kind of meeting is paramount because we consult one another on what to do to fulfill our assignment regarding fighting and preventing crimes in our area,” Ndayambaje said.

Jean Pierre Zimuzizi, civil status officer for Kinyababa sector commended the role played by CPCs in ensuring security.

He appealed to them to actively participate in government initiatives like Ndi Umunyarwanda, umuganda and subscribe to Mutuelle de santé, a medical insurance scheme.

Burera District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) Inspector of Police Justin Nkurikiyinka also thanked them for living up to their expectation and meeting to further lay quality policing strategies.

IP Nkurikiyinka appealed to them to invest much in preventing crimes than dealing with the consequences and in time anything that is beyond their capacity.

“Discipline, hard work and working with communities will lead to your success in ensuring community safety,” IP Nkurikiyinka noted.

He told the participants to tighten their night patrols, fight trade and consumption of illicit drugs like Kanyanga, cannabis, chief waragi and other locally made brew like ibikwangari and muriture.

He also appealed to them to identify families that could be embroiled in domestic conflicts so that they are helped to solve their disputes before their turn violent.
