Police and local leaders in Burera District seized at least 6000 sachets of Sky Blue from suspected traffickers.

The substances classified as narcotic drugs in Rwanda were seized on March 9, in Munini Village of Kagitega Cell, Cyanika Sector. They were concealed in 10 sacks.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern region, said that the operation was conducted with local leaders in Cyanika following credible information provided by a resident about the suspected traffickers.

"Unfortunately, traffickers abandoned the sacks of Blue Sky on seeing the Police, and runaway but we know who they are and the search for them continues," CIP Rugigana said.

Elsewhere, similar operations conducted separately in the districts of Ngororero, Ngoma, Rulindo and Musanze arrested four other suspected drug traffickers. 

In Ngororero, a 21-year old Fiston Munezero was intercepted in Nyanza Village of Kabaya Cell in Kabaya Sector with 1660 rolls of cannabis. 

Munezero told the Police that his accomplice whom he identified as Tharcisse Nkubiri had left earlier to Muhanga District where they were supposed to deliver the narcotics to their customers.

In Ngoma, Jean Pierre Hakizimana, 33, was arrested in Sake Sector with 3.5kgs of cannabis while Asuma Mukakimenyi is currently detained at Muhoza Police station in Musanze over the same crime.

Mukakimenyi is said to have set ablaze large quantities of cannabis after learning that he was headed to his home located in Muhoza Sector.

CIP Rugigana said that only 30 pellets of cannabis were seized from Mukakimenyi before burning them.

The increased operations across the country are part of the drive to break chains of supply.
