Police in Bugesera District have urged the youth in the area to be at the forefront in combating drug abuse and engage in activities that develop them.
In a meeting held on April 14, the youngsters were also asked to mobilize their peers to shun drugs.
Addressing members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) in Bigesera, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Assistant Inspector of police (AIP) Cyprien Uwitonze said; "Records show that youth are the majority involved in drug-related crimes.”
AIP Uwitonze introduced them to the concept of community policing and urged them to work with security organs and report any person they suspect of illegal conduct, for thorough investigation.
He noted that most drug dealers make all effort to recruit youth into drug consumption and trafficking.
Alphonsine Dushimimana, the coordinator RYVCP in Bugesera, hailed RNP for involving the youth in crime prevention and advised colleagues to abstain from use of drugs which may leads to school drop-outs, unwanted pregnancies, prostitution and other related vices.
