Bugesera traders advised to set up fight against drug abuse

Police has urged traders in Ririma sector of Bugesera district to stand up against drug abuse by mainly sharing credible information about suspected drug traffickers and using drugs so as they are apprehended and brought to book.

While addressing traders on Tuesday August 11 Bugesera District Community Policing Liaison Officer (DCLO), Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Cyprien Uwitonze, told them that fighting against drugs is a shared responsibility and they should tas well play a significant role in the quest.

“Drug dealing and consumption remain a big challenge that has drawn concern of security organs and the country in general. It is a serious security threat that has a number of side effects to life, it affects mostly the youth,’’ he said.

He added that; “Most people commit crimes when they are under influence of drugs… This, in the end becomes a security matter especially when drug addicts start robbing people of their hard earned money and other properties.”

He further reminded that, fighting the vice requires that every play a personal role and this could be achieved by sharing timely information that would see suspects arrested.

Jean Bosco Hafashimana, the Private Sector representative in Ririma sector, highlighted security as an ideal prerequisite to development.

“Security is a basis for development. Just like in other places of the country, residents here run their business freely and under no any fear of encountering security threat. This is off course possible because of the overall security,” Hafashimana said.

Hafashimana appreciated the positive message delivered to them by Police. He urged the business community in the area to put into action the Police message to ensure drug abuse is effectively prevented.
