Police in Bugesera district has issued stern warning over acts of illicit drug trade and consumption and felling of trees.
Superintendent Victor Vandama, the District Police Commander (DPC) issued the caution on August 13 during a public exercise to destroy illicit drugs seized in the district in the past one month, held in Nyamata sector.
The destroyed drugs include 270 litres of Kanyanga, three kilograms and 300 pellets of cannabis and 60 tones of Kabaruka tree.
The substances were sneaked into the country through porous borders.
Supt. Vandama challenged parents and guardians to always teach their children the effects of drug abuse.
Combating drug abuse in the country is one of the priorities of the Rwanda National Police.
The district Mayor Louis Rwagaju also warned residents against acts of cutting trees.
He also said cutting trees is only authorised by local leaders.
The mayor also appealed to them to work with Police in fighting such illegal acts.
