Police in Bugesera District, on Monday, recovered assorted items belonging to Jean Damascene Nsengiyumva, which had been stolen.
The items including a flat television set, computer and a cooking gas system, were recovered from the suspected thief identified as Sebastien Uwayezu, 29.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the police spokesperson for the Eastern region said the items were found in Nyamata Sector, Nyamata Cell after the would-be client got suspicious and reported to Police.
“Uwayezu was a domestic worker for Nsengiyumva. He stole these items on Monday morning, but the person who wanted to buy them suspected that Uwayezu could have stolen them and called the Police. Indeed, Police found that Uwayezu stole them from the home where he was working,” he explained.
The spokesperson thanked that would-be buyer for the responsiveness to recover the stolen equipment and to arrest the suspected thief.
Theft, under article 166 of the penal code, attracts an imprisonment of between one and two years and a fine of Rwf1 million to Rwf2 million, a community service of not more than six months or one of the two penalties.
