Bugesera: Police recovers stolen electronics

Police in Bugesera district has recovered an assortment of electronics stolen including two television sets recently in various households in Nyamata sector.

The equipment were recovered from the house of one David Musemakweri 25, in Nyamata on December 18, who was also taken into custody alongside his accomplice also identified as Jean Marie Nkurunziza.

The two suspects are currently detained at Nyamata Police Station as investigations continue.

Other recovered home appliances are three amplifiers and utensils.

Police said they were apprehended as they were in the process of securing buyers of the stolen appliances, following credible information from area residents.

“Their arrest came as a result of well coordinated information sharing with area residents, who were also pointing a finger at Musemakweri for being behind the theft and selling them in Kigali,” Inspector of Police IP Emmanuel Kayigi, the Police Spokesperson for the Eastern Province, said.

“We conducted an operation, went and searched Musemakweri’s house where we recovered the appliances, although he claims he bought them from Nkurunziza,” IP Kayigi added.

It is the second time the duo has been arrested for varied crimes. Musemakweri had previously been detained for theft while his accomplice was imprisoned over narcotic drugs-related crimes.

IP Kayigi appealed to the public to be vigilant, especially in this festive season and share timely information with police, in case of any security challenge.
