Over 200 commercial motorcyclists operating in Nyamata Town of Bugesera District have committed to ensuring safety in their area of operation by enhancing their neighborhood watch activities and being more vigilant.
The motorists who are members of Cooperative de Taxi Motos de Bugesera (COTAMOBU), made the commitment following a meeting with the District Police Commander (DPC) Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Ntaburana
The meeting was part of ‘concerted efforts to enhance public safety’
CIP Ntaburana called the meeting of taxi-moto operators to review security in the area and lay collective strategies stop or minimize lawlessness in the community and sensitize them on respecting road traffic rules and guidelines.
He warned them against abuse of road signs and overspending to which he said have been responsible for most of the road accidents from the area.
“You cannot ride or drive recklessly and expect to respect road signs…this is how most accidents occur yet they are avoidable,” he said.
He also warned the motorcyclists against corrupt tendencies, such as offering bribes to traffic police officers and reminded them to always denounce criminals such as drug dealers who may use their service e to abet crime.
He noted that the unwavering resolve of the police to secure life and property as mandated by the laws will remain police priority.
