Police in Bugesera District have called upon commercial motorcyclists operating in the district to observe road safety and traffic rules at all times.
The call was made by Superintendent of Police (SP) Anastase Bahire the District Police Commander (DPC) while meeting over 300 members of cyclists associations registered in the District.
He said police records last year show that about 27 accidents were registered in the district and seven people died due to injuries emanating from the accidents.
SP Bahire however, noted that all accidents could have been avoided if regulations were observed at all times.
He explained that most accidents were caused by over speeding, reckless maneuver and drunk driving according to assessment made.
They were also urged to distance themselves and report members, who connive with drug traffickers to transport their illegal commodities.
You should be strong advocates of the law and a police eye against drug traffickers. Don’t let your business be used by members in such criminal activities as this would be abetting crimes,” said the DPC.
The exercise is part of Rwanda National Police’s community policing regular programs to sensitize cross-sections of the community against lawlessness.
The meeting resolved to a regular collaborative framework with all stakeholders to fight u bnlawful tendencies among commercial transporters and crimes in general.
