Students of Maranyundo Girl in Nyamata Sector of Bugesera District were on March 6, enlightened on the proactive philosophy of community policing.
They were reminded that reporting, fighting and preventing crimes is the duty of every Rwandan and the young people in particular.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Benjamin Muhawenima, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) for Bugesera advised the students to also dedicate their time on studies and to desist any temptations that might destroy their lives and the future.
He singled out illicit drugs as one of the things affecting youth development and a serious security concern.
"Good things awaits you after your education, and you can't get there if you start abusing drugs... instead be at the forefront in fighting them by reporting those that sell them or attempting to lure you into trade and consumption of psychotropic substances," AIP Muhawenima told the students.
People aged between 18 and 35 years account for about 70 percent of those arrested in drug related crimes.
The DCLO also enlightened them on child rights and urged them to report domestic and gender related offenses.
