Bugesera: Maranyundo Girls root for formation of anti-crime clubs in schools

In a move to further combat and prevent crimes in schools, Police in Bugesera district on August 13 visited Maranyundo Girls School in Nyamata sector and encouraged the students to form ant-crime clubs and take a vital role in the ongoing crime prevention campaign.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Cyprien Uwitonze, the District Community Liaison Officer briefed the students on the importance of Anti Crime Clubs in schools.

A 14-year old Patience Kariza, the School headgirl said they will form an anti Crime Club by the end of September

"As students, we are honored to be part of crime prevention actors," Kariza said.

She added that the Anti-Crime Club will not only help prevent crimes at school but also ven in their homes especially during holidays.

Samantha Umulisa, another student hailed Police’s tireless efforts in fighting and preventing crimes in schools and mobilizing the youth and students in particular to actively participate in security activities in the country.

Umulisa further noted that having Anti- Crime Clubs in schools is a great idea to contribute to security and build a good education system in the country comprised of focused and competent youth.

"I am happy for seeing law enforcing organ coming here to mobilize us to be solution providers especially in the field of security. This is a good thing; their visit is timely, since there is a saying in Kinyarwanda that ‘Igiti kigororwa kikiri gito’ (A tree is straightened while still young)," Umulisa said.

In a related development, over 300 students of High Hill Academy in Kicukiro district were on the same day sensitized on fighting drug and abuse through Community Policing.
