Bugesera: Leaders discuss on enhancing partnership in security, development

A general security meeting was held in Monday in Bugesera District to discuss and device means to reinforce safety, quality service and accountability.

The session chaired by the district mayor Emmanuel Nsanzumuhire was also attended by the District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Ntaburana and other security organs.

The meeting brought together heads of Isibo – a nucleus structure of at least five neighbouring households – chiefs of villages and cell executive secretaries, and opinion leaders from Nyamata Sector.

Top on the agenda was the security situation, sanitation and hygiene, ensuring that construction of houses is done accordingly as well as closer follow up to ensure the wellbeing of the people.

Mayor Nsanzumuhire urged the leaders to work together at all levels to achieve what was set out in the performance contract to achieve the overall security and development for the wellbeing of the people.

In an interview with the DPC, CIP Ntaburana, he said that the meeting that focused mainly on Nyamata would serve as the best approach and replicated in all the 15 sectors of Bugesera.

“We discussed on how to restructure and reinforce Irondo – community night patrols – to make them efficient in responding to the security needs; we also looked on how to ensure that sanitation and hygiene, as human security, can become the order of the day in homes and in communities,” said CIP Ntaburana.

“Although the general security situation is okay with crimes reducing, assault, theft and drug related crimes are some of the security concerns in the district. We are also looking on how to address domestic and gender based violence, prevent unlawful constructions which sometimes result into disasters especially in rainy season.”

Under Isibo, resident have found ways to ensure their security in their nucleus setup, where households either alternate in night patrol duties or put money together to pay Irondo personnel.
