Over 225 Muslim students including 9 teachers who will head mosques across the country were, on September 15, sensitized on dangers of drug abuse and human trafficking and urged to play a great role through community policing to fight and prevent the vice which is rated high among the youth.
The session organized by Rwandan Muslims’ Association was held in Kayenzi cell of Ntarama sector.
Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Cyprien Uwitonze, Bugesera District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), told the participants that consumption of drugs including Kanyanga, Chief Waragi, Blue Sky, and cannabis, lead to crimes like assault, domestic and gender related crimes, theft, rape and defilement.
He reminded the participants that drugs are harmful to health, therefore, called-upon them to abstain from both their selling and consumption and campaign against them.
AIP Uwitonze told the participants that some people traffic teens overseas especially girls with false promises of jobs and other benefits but end up taking them into malpractices prostitution.
The DCLO urged the students to refrain from narcotic drugs and instead partner security organs in the fight against the vice by reporting those involved on time.
Musa Byukusenge, one of the students while pledging to partner security organs in the campaign against drug abuse said “I used to take drugs lightly but now i know their ill-effects on addicts and society. I will be sensitizing my subordinates and my community to abstain from both drug abuse and human trafficking and report those involved in time.
