Bugesera: Four suspected thieves arrested

Four people suspected to be connected to series of house break-ins in Bugesera District were arrested on Sunday.

They were arrested in Biryogo, Gashora Sector in an operation conducted by Police and investigators of Rwanda Investigation Bureau.

"There was information about a group of people involved in theft especially at night, and residents were pointing a fingure at the four suspects," Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Eastern region Police spokesperson, said.

"Indeed when police officers and investigators went to search their house, they recovered two flat television sets and other household items reportedly stolen in various homes," he added.

He said that similar operations will continue and commended the public for continued cooperation against wrongdoers.

Theft is punishable with a prison term of up to two years and a fine of two to five times the value of the stolen property or one of these penalties, according to article 300 of the penal code.

The spokesperson called for continued partnership and information sharing on any suspected illegal or criminal acts.
