Jean Muhirwa, a driver of a Fuso truck RAB 050 P, is being held by Police in Bugesera District for allegedly attempting to bribe a Police officer with Rwf2, 000.

The suspect was arrested on September 8, in Nyamata Cell at around 10 PM en route to Kigali.

Muhirwa allegedly attempted to bribe traffic Police Officer after he was stopped and informed that one of the tyres for the truck was old.

In the process however, the officer denied the driver’s offer (bribe) but instead arrested him. The suspect is currently detained at Nyamata Police station.

“The officer acted professionally and the act was in accordance with the force’s culture of zero tolerance to corruption”. Said Superintendent Victor Vandama, the District Police Commander (DPC), and acted professionally”.

He warned drivers and the general public against such illegal tendencies, saying the force has devised stringent measures to arrest anyone involved in corruption.

Supt Vandama appealed to the public to play a key role in the fight and prevention of corruption by sharing information with Police about those involved.
