Bugesera: DIGP Marizamunda urges public to report crime

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in-charge of Administration and Personnel Juvenal Marizamunda has appealed to residents of Bugesera District to join efforts with law enforcement agencies to ensure the security of people and their belongings remains intact.

DIGP Marizamunda, was speaking yesterday to about 5000 residents of Bugesera District during a public forum commonly referred to as Inteko z’abaturage to discuss issues raised by the community concerning their District.

He said, though Police is principally mandated to maintain internal security of persons and their property, collaboration with residents is required to achieve success.

He mentioned that development cannot be easily achieved without security.

He said that the community who are the key stakeholders and first beneficiary of security are at the center of the police’s security operations and as such their support is important.

He asked them to share timely information on every suspected person and police will do their work.

A public forum is an event that attracts virtually all political and technical leaders of the district.

During such meetings, leaders and residents discuss community development issues. It is at such meetings that leaders publically held accountable.

He particularly urged residents to speak out on persons involved in drug and human trafficking.

“These are some of the high impact crimes which must be eliminated from the community many of our children indulge in drug abuse and others lured into human trafficking,” said DIGP Marizamunda.

On his part, the mayor of Bugesera District Richard Mutabazi asked residents to support and implement government development programs brought about to improve their social and economic wellbeing.

Mayor Mutabazi emphasized that local leaders must be at the forefront of spearheading the development and sensitize masses to follow and implement them.

He also spoke against violence that women and children face, adding that protecting them goes beyond just a family but the whole community.
