Bugesera: Commercial cyclists urged to form anti crime clubs

Commercial cyclists operating in Nyamata town of Bugesera District have been urged to form anti crime clubs through which they will be able to collectively engage as a group in community policing activities.

In a meeting that brought together over 250 cyclists organized under two cooperatives - NCA and CONTRAVENYA - recently,  Inspector of Police (IP) Faustin Hagenimana, the commander of

Nyamata Police Station, noted that ensuring safety and reporting suspected criminals should be theirs as well as any other Rwandan.

He singled out illicit drugs as a major threat to community safety and urged them to reporting drug dealers and abusers, those who distill illicit substances, which he said they fuel domestic conflicts, wreck families and lead to theft, among others.

“The sell and use of illicit substances is criminal and has resulted into negative effects...some children have dropped out of school, early pregnancy, and financial loss in case of seizure, ” he said.

He encouraged the cyclists to always hurriedly inform the police on any crime they suspect especially when transporting customers who have drugs or illegal luggage.

IP Hagenimana, however, warned them against facilitating drug dealers and other criminals, or hiding behind their transport business to commit crimes.

They were also urged to ride carefully to prevent accidents, and park in their sites to avoid disorder.
