Beware of human traffickers, students told

Students have been called upon to be vigilant not to fall victims of people who promise them better offers especially abroad with intent to lure them into exploitative activities.

Chief Inspector  Thomas Ruzindana, Nyamasheke District Police Commander made the call on November 1 while speaking to students of Kibogora polytechnic.

This was during the official launch of their civic education locally known as Ingando.

The exercise was also attended by Boniface Rucagu, the chairman of Itorero Commission and Nyamasheke vice mayor in charge of economic development, Charles Bahizi, among others.

CIP Ruzindana told the youth that though the issue of trafficking in persons is not common in Rwanda, there could be people who target students promising them jobs abroad when actually they want to trade them for hard labour and sexual exploitation.

"Fighting human trafficking and arresting traffickers and even locating victims is the role of everyone not a single institution," CIP Ruzindana said.

Rucagu, who observed that the youth are the future leaders, urged them to uphold the Rwandan values.
