Bankers vows to partner Police in the fight against financial crimes

Officials from twelve banks in the country yesterday completed a three day money laundering workshop organized by Rwanda National Police. The workshop is part of the wider national campaign to fight financial fraud.

The workshop had a theme; “Policing together transnational organized crime.”

Participants mainly, Heads of IT, Legal Officers and Human Resource Managers shared views and learnt lessons on the nature of financial crimes and related issues such as money laundering, security in banks and cyber crimes.

Other key issues tackled include, Community Poling, Corruption, Customer Care and ethics.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Emmanuel K. Gasana, who presiding over the closing ceremony of the workshop, said that it is important bankers acquire knowledge on financial criminality.

Adeline Mukashema, from the National Bank of Rwanda said the skills and knowledge shared during the workshop was very vital and useful.

Participants promised to share the knowledge with their colleagues because some crimes are committed with the help of bank employees.

Rwanda National Police in partnership with Interpol has recovered Rwf400 million out of Rwf500 million that was stolen from different banks in the country this year alone.
