Baby rescued from pit

Police in Kicukiro district, yesterday, rescued a three-month old baby boy after he was allegedly dumped in a pit latrine by his mother.

The rescued followed information provided by area residents in Murinja cell of Gahanga sector who heard the child crying in a pit and called police.

The baby was taken to Gahanga health centre for medical attention.

The mother, Jeannette Ingabire, who was also apprehended confessed to the heartless act arguing that the child had a “mental disorder and I didn’t want to carry the burden.”

“No one has a right to take else’s life that because they have any form mental or physical issues. They have a right to live and if one feels they are not in position to take care of such children, there are other institutions including the government that can take care of them instead of condemning them to such inhuman acts,” the District Police Commander, Chief Inspector of Police Anastase Karango, said.

“People living with disabilities have equal rights like others,” he added.
