Police in Gasabo district is holding a man identified as Emmanuel
Niyomwungeri suspected of killing his wife.

The criminal incident took place on September 15 in Gikomero Sector,
Gasagara Cell.

Police investigations indicate that the suspect ambushed the deceased and murdered her using a machete.

The deceased was with a friend at the time of the fatal incident, who was also hurt on the arm, but managed to escape.

The cause of the bloody incident is said to be due to family conflicts.

The deceased had already left her husband who she accused of mistreating her.

Senior Superintendent Urbain Mwiseneza, the Central Police Spokesperson,
condemned the criminal act calling residents to be part of crime prevention
campaign by mainly sharing information with Police about family disputes so
that Police and other relevant authorizes may intervene before people even
loose lives and others injured.

If found guilty, Niyomwungeri will be punished under article 142 of the penal
code which stipulates that, any person who kills his/her spouse shall be
punishable by life imprisonment.
