Anti-GBV compaign goes to Bugesera

Rwanda National Police campaign against Gender Based Violence and child abuse continued today 18 in Nyamata youth friend center with a call to area residents to strengthen cooperation in the ongoing countrywide campaign to fight and prevent the vice.

It is being conducted under the theme; “Act Together in Prevention and Response to GBV & Child Abuse.”

The executive secretary of the Eastern Province, Makombe Jean Marie Vianny , while addressing Nyamata residents said that the province has registered domestic violence  cases between married couples and child abuse cases but the campaign is an ongoing process to deal with these cases .

Rwanda National Police Commissioner for Operations,Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Butera, said that GBV is among the three most committed crimes in the country adding that RNP remains committed to fight and prevent it.

CP Butera urged the students who were present at campaign ground  to be characterized by good morals and values of Ndumunyarwanda.   

CP Butera  also warned those who involve students in human trafficking and other criminal acts to stop it as it is illegal and punishable under Rwandan laws.

The Mayor of Bugesera district, Rwagahu Luis said the youth are the future leaders of this country; we have an obligation of nurturing them and turn them into responsible citizens that would help in the development of the country.

Mayor Rwagaju said that this compaign is going to continue happening in 15 sectors that make up Bugesera district in order to eradicate the GBV cases and child abuse.
