The Rwanda National Police (RNP) has shifted from fighting crimes to deal with the root causes of crimes as an effective preventive mechanism.
The force therefore emphasises crime awareness among the general population to make them aware of the likely security threats in their communities and further involve them in the proactive approach of ensuring security and safety where they live.
Last week, Police conducted crime awareness campaigns in APADE and AIPR secondary schools in Kicukiro district.
The campaign focused on sensitising the youngsters on dangers associated with consuming narcotics and illicit brew and to bring them on board in reporting and fighting drug dealers and abusers.
Chief Inspector of Police, Jean Claude Kabandana, who is in charge of training and sensitisation in RNP appealed to the students to fight use of drugs like cannabis, kanyanga, chief waragi and other locally brewed illicit liquors.
He also appealed to the students to say no to sugar mummies and daddies who seduce them with material things like money and other gifts.
The headmaster of APADE, David Gatoya thanked RNP for message to guide them in creating a focused generation.
