Ongoing operations against people involved in theft of motorcycles arrested another man in Kimisagara Sector of Nyarugenge District, said to be part of the ring.
Jean Pierre Nubahumpatse, 37, was arrested on Wednesday in Nyabugogo Village, Kimisagara Cell, while stealing a motorcycle using a master key.
The commercial motorcycle registration number RD 825S belongs to one Richard Musonera, Police said.
“Motorcyclists saw Nubahumpatse taking a motorcycle of one of their colleagues from its parking lot, and they apprehended him and handed him over to Police,” Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.
“However, Nubahumpatse argued that he mistook it with his motorcycle, but investigations unearthed that he used a master key to unlock it. He also sold his boss’ motorcycle and he (boss) wasn’t aware,” SSP Hityezu said.
“The said motorcycle which Nubahumpatse sold is a new development that the suspect is facing. Police investigating to recover the motorcycle but also to apprehend all those that could be in his criminal circle,” he explained.
Nubahumpatse is the twelfth suspected to be arrested by the Police red-handed since the beginning of this year, as part of the crackdown against theft of motorcycles, through which all the 13 motorcycles reported to Police as stolen this year, were recovered.
