Police in Bugesera district is holding a driver identified as Rwiyamirira Gilbert, 45, for allegedly attempting to bribe a Police officer with Rwf2,000.
Rwiyamirira was arrested on August 23 in Ntarama sector en route to Kigali driving a fuso RAB 411P full of stones.
He allegedly offered the bribe after a traffic office penalised him for driving a vehicle with old tyres.
The officer denied the bribe and instead arrested the man on spot.
The suspect is currently detained at Nyamata police station.
Superintendent (SP) Benoit Nsengiyumva, Police spokesperson for Eastern region said the officer exhibited the force’s culture of "zero stance to corruption" and “acted professionally”.
He warned drivers and the general public against such illegal tendencies.
He also reminded the public that, “prevention and fight against all sorts of corruption should not be left to police and other concerned institutions alone; it should be everybody’s responsibility.”
