Another cannabis supplier arrested in Nyarugenge

Ongoing operations against drug dealers by the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) led to the arrest of another supplier in Nyarugenge District on Friday.

The suspected drug dealer identified as Eugene Tuyambaze was at the time of his arrest found in possession of 5000 pellets of cannabis.

He was tracked and arrested in Nyamabuye Village, Kimisagara Cell of Kimisagara Sector, Police said.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie-Gorette Umutesi, the Police spokesperson of City of Kigali, said the information about  Tuyambaze's criminal business was provided by residents of Nyamabuye.

“Acting on the credible information, ANU arrested Tuyambaze red-handed with 5000 pellets of cannabis. He is said to be one of the suppliers in Kigali with a number of retailers. Tuyambaze gets the narcotics from other distributors in Rubavu," CIP Umutesi said.

Some of Tuyambaze's distributors and retailers were also arrested in previous ANU operations.

She added: "Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances are a serious concern to which we respond decisively and collectively with other security organs as well as the general public."

The spokesperson thanked the public for their role in identifying and breaking chains of supply and retailers.
