Gatsibo District Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP) Eric Kabera met with over 600 youth from the Pentecostal Church of Rwanda (ADEPR) on July 26 and urged them to join the ongoing campaign against human trafficking, which is mostly affecting the youth.
During the meeting held in Kabarore Sector, the DPC informed them that human trafficking can be done by a relative, friends but in most cases, by strangers who seduce victims promising them better offers like jobs in other places within or outside the country.
He urged them not to listen to anyone who promises them decent jobs abroad adding that this is one of the tricks traffickers employ to manipulate their targets to traffic them to other countries where they are traded like commodities.
“Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery, and in most cases it involves deceit where victims are meant to believe that they will be given well paying jobs or education but the fact is that the traffickers want to exploit you for their personal gains," SP Kabera told the youth.
“Normally, a trafficker will tell you not to tell anyone about the deal, while on the journey to the imaginary job they will confiscate all your identifications and subsequently subject to forced labour or sexual exploitation,” he said.
During the same meeting Pastor Eliezel Nkezabera told the youth that their belief has a connection with the responsibilities of the police since both are aimed at ensuring a safer and righteous society.
He went on to thank the police for reaching out to the youth and promised that the church will ensure that the lessons acquired are spread even further.
