8 held over drug trafficking

Police Officers in Kamonyi District swooped on eight suspected drugs traffickers as part of RNP’s larger narcotics bust involving nationwide operations, cross-border multiple surveillance and multiple sensitization campaigns.

The suspects, seized during different raids in the suburbs of Kamonyi, are linked to the distribution of cannabis and other narcotics in the southern province.

Police confiscated more than 100kg of cannabis from them.

The Southern Province police Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Hubert Gashagaza said that the successful operation was the product of focused planning by RNP and essential information provided by the public through Community Policing.

“Police has ensured that drug trafficking and drug abuse are completely stumped out of Rwanda because they are destructive, especially to the youth. However, some individuals seem determined to continue this illegal trade. We will ensure that they are stopped,” he said.

“We commend those who provide timely information that facilitate the successful anti-drugs operations and we urge this good cooperation with Police to continue.”
