Thirty Police officers received training in Customer Care and Public Relations in a bid to improve their ability to provide quality services as mandated by Rwanda National Police.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda officiated at the end of the five-day training on January 23 held at the RNP headquarters in Kacyiru.
DIGP Marizamunda challenged the course participants to use their skills in ensuring that they perform their duties efficiently and effectively.
The training was conducted in partnership with the Workforce Development Authority (WDA), in line with national development programs designed to equip officers with knowledge and to help them deliver better services in their respective operational units.
“This is a continuous training that aims to improve the abilities of officers to deliver quality services to the people as well as increase knowledge and skills about the operations conducted daily,” DIGP Marizamunda said in his address to the officers.
“Police aims at providing the best quality of service in its mandate to keep law and order, as well as to safeguard and sustain Rwanda’s security and peace. Therefore you must always conduct yourselves responsibly by being accountable and transparent,” he added.
In partnership with WDA which provides training facilitators, Police aims to train over 210 officers on customer care relations this year.
The Director General of WDA, Jerome Gasana pledged continued support to Police through capacity building programmes.
Assistant Inspector of Police Philomene Uwineza, who represented the trainees, stated gratitude for the new skills they acquired, and pledged commitment to use them in facilitating the relationship between the public and police.
By continuously training its officers in various fields, RNP steps closer to its vision aimed at making the people living in Rwanda feel safe, involved and reassured.
Capacity building especially through training is among the ten priority areas of the force.
Other than partnering with other institutions such as WDA, Police has three schools; The National Police College in Musanze, the Police Training School, Gishari Integrated Polytechnic and the Peace Support Training Centre, all in Rwamagana District, and the Counter Terrorism Training Centre in Mayange; which have had a big role in professionalizing the force in a very short period of time.
It is through such initiatives that Police equips officers with relevant skills to help it in its priority to deliver high quality services, accountability and transparency, in a bid to safeguard the rule of law and provide a safe and crime free environment for all.
