Warning over currency counterfeit as one is arrested

A 30-year old man, resident of Remera in Gasabo district is detained at Remera Police Station for allegedly counterfeiting and distributing fake Rwandan currency.

The suspect was arrested on January 24 with Rwf45000 in Rwf5000 denomination, all fake.

He was reported to Police by the would-be victim at the bar where he was having a drink.

He was apparently trying to settle the bill with the fake money.

The suspect confessed to the crime adding that he got the fake money from a colleague in Nyarugenge district.

"I was give this (fake) money by a colleague in Nyarugenge and i have been doing this," the suspect who begged to be pardoned, saying he "will never do it again," said.

Police is searching for all those connected to this illegal and criminal act, which has an impact on the economy.

SSP Urbain Mwiseneza called for vigilance, especially among the business community not to fall prey of these crooks.

He also warned the youth against taking such shortcut and illegal means to prosper.
