Second Police batch departs for security operations in Mozambique

The second batch of 160 Rwanda National Police (RNP) officers left this Saturday, July 10, to Mozambique as part of the Government of Rwanda response to the request to support the security operations in Cabo Delgado Province.

The group, which is part of the over 300 Police contingent, left Kigali International Airport (KIA) aboard RwandAir.

They are part of the 1000 military and police contingent pledged by the Government of Rwanda at the request of the Government of Mozambique, to support the country's operations against insecurity and terrorism in the affected region of Cabo Delgado.



RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, while addressing to the media, said that Rwanda Police officers will work together with Mozambique Republic Police in conducting security operations including protection of civilians.

"Rwanda National Police officers will conduct public order management, fight terrorism in partnership with the local Police and ensure security of civilians.

The Police operations are meant to guarantee security in the areas affected by insecurity and support in building the capacity of Mozambique Police through training," CP Kabera said.

In a communique by the Government of Rwanda, the deployment is also "based on the good bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Mozambique, to Project (R2P) doctrine and the Kigali Principles on the Protection of Civilians."

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, in a tweet posted on his social platform, said that Rwanda's deployment of 1000 RDF and RNP personnel depicts a "strong and concrete act of African Solidarity to suppport a fellow member state fight terrorism and insecurity."
