Police tips pupils of Path to Success International School on fire safety

They say that often what begins as a natural exploration of the unknown can lead to tragedy.

It is, therefore, important to always teach children at an early age, about the dangers of fire-play in an effort to prevent them from practices that can cause fire tragedies, fire injuries, fire deaths and destruction of property.

This influences behavioral change against reckless practices and fire-setting behaviors.

There are some cases where lives and property are lost in fires attributed to children playing with fire or electric appliances.

This is why the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade teaches, among others, children for them to grow up with fire safety knowledge and skills.

On Thursday, October 20, Grade 1 pupils of Path to Success International School located in Kigarama Sector, Kicukiro District acquired these skills when they visited Rwanda National Police at the General Headquarters at Kacyiru.

The pupils were trained on fire outbreak preventive measures and skills to use different firefighting and rescue equipment.

Gabriel Opare, the Principal of Path to Success International School said that this helps the children to be aware of the dangers associated fire.

"This helped them to understand dangers associated with fire such as death, causing harm and destruction, and what to do to prevent it," Opare said.

He added: "We focus on teaching children to develop attributes that makes them confident, responsible, innovative and engaged with practical in every day life situations, and the experience at the fire and rescue brigade brings to bear what they have been hearing and seeing but with a new knowledge of how to combat it.

It was a great experience and we are grateful for the efforts and all that you do to ensure safety in this nation."
