Police in Kigali City on Thursday night conducted an operation in Bibare cell, Kimironko sector, Gasabo district, which saw the seizure of 1.2 metric tonnes of local brews.
Jean Marie Safari, notoriously known for selling the illicit alcohol, was arrested at around 10:30PM at his residence. He is held at Remera Police station for further investigation.
Two drug dealers, Janvier Nsengiyumva and Jean Claude Bavakure, from Gicumbi district were also arrested.
They were found with 74 liters of Kanyanga, a local illicit gin. They are held at Murindi Police station pending further investigations.
Central Region Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Urbain Mwiseneza said Police will continue cracking down drug abuses.
He applauded the public for sharing information.
“Besides being illegal, drug consumption is harmful to people’s lives. We will not allow it to continue,” SSP Mwiseneza explained.
If found guilty, the suspects can be face a five year jail term and a fine of up to Rwf500,000.
