The National Handball Championship started this Sunday, February 26, with the reigning champions, Police Handball Club bagging maximum six points in its first two opening games against Hanika Handball Club of Nyamasheke District and G.S Kigoma of Ruhango District.

The record eight-time champions thrashed Hanika Handball Club 54-21 in their morning tip-off before heading to Ruhango to register another easy 57-27 win over G.S Kigoma.

The fired up law enforcers scored 25 and 29 goals in both periods, respectively, against Hanika.

At G.S Kigoma, it was an easy first-half start for the visitors as they scored 27 goals against 13 for the hosts, before adding more 30 goals in the second period.

"I thank the players...the way they played in our opening two games. We have started the challenge to defend the championship.

The players are in good shape and the team is well prepared for another challenge," said Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana, the Police HC coach.

Established in 2011, Police Handball Club has 54 trophies in the cabinet. They won the 2019 national championship and successfully defended it in 2022.
