The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Fire and Rescue Brigade has trained 20 staff at Africa Lubricant Manufacturing Company Limited (ALMC) in Gasabo District on fire safety as part of the ongoing awareness campaign across the country to prevent fire emergencies.
The one-day training conducted on Friday, June 17, at ALMC factory in Masoro cell, Ndera sector looked at the causes, components and classes of fire as well as preventive and evacuation procedures.
The beneficiaries include, Electrical engineers, lab technicians, security guards, and cleaners at ALMC factory.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jonas Rizinde, while speaking to the trainees, said that some fires are the caused by human behaviours such as negligence and poor or tampered with electric installation.
?Sometimes, fires result from people, who carelessly use electric appliances and devices without taking precautionary measures causing short-circuit," CIP Rizinde said.
He added that substandard electric equipment and overloading the installation system can lead to the fire outbreak. He urged participants to always be vigilant and check whether their tools are on the required standard.
Participants were also showed how to use fire extinguishers and fire blanket to put out fire.
Fire inspection was also done at the factory and all identified gaps were communicated to the leadership for quick fixing.
Evariste Gatera, the security manager at ALMC, thanked RNP for the training.
?We needed this training due to the nature of our work and workplace as a factory that manufacturers lubricants and fire can occur at any time. The basic skills we acquired today will facilitate us to prevent fire disasters," Gatera said.
