Eastern Region up against family conflicts

Police in the Eastern Region is set conducted an awareness campaign on the grass-root to further engage the public in fighting and preventing domestic wrangles and drug abuse.

Senior Superintendent Jean Marie Njangwe, the Police Spokesperson-Eastern Region, said that the campaign which will also include Community Policing Committees and local leaders will be conducted in all cells in the region.

He warned families and individuals to desist from conflicts and fights and resort to other legal means and called upon the public to move fast to provide information on people that could be having wrangles, to prevent them before they turn violent.

He observed that there are some people that fight, even over petty things. He challenged members of the community for their reluctance to report them such cases, resulting into blood-shedding.

SSP Njwangwe said: “These conflicts and cases of assault in particular are on the decrease in the region, but there is need to fight and prevent even the few cases that still exist. It would be unfortunate for your neighbours to reach to the extent of attempting to kill each other when you knew about it and you did nothing to help; that makes you an irresponsible neighbor.”

He added: “Most of these wrangles are cause by drug abuse, which requires collective efforts to combat it. We have strategies in place to further fight these crimes, but the public’s input is paramount to this effect.”

He also warned against providing own justice.
