The Rwanda National Police will continue to support the development of sports activities within the force and the country in general as one of the tools of social change, peace and development, the Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel K. Gasana, said.

He was speaking at a special dinner for the Police Handball Club at the force’s headquarters in Kacyiru on Wednesday, which was organized in recognition of winning the “Labour Day’ cup.

Police Handball club beat Gicumbi 35-26 in a game played last Sunday to lift the trophy, the seventh since the club was formed in July 2002.

The team chairman, Donald Kabanda and the entire team also handed over the trophy to the IGP.

“We are happy for the achievements you have registered in the past 12 years. As we fight, prevent and investigate crimes, we will also continue to support sports development in the country and continue to partner with the public in various ways,” the IGP said.

Police Handball Club has won the national league twice, crowned champions of ‘Liberation Cup,’ won the Heroes Day cup twice and the Labour Day cup.

He particularly pledged to further give all necessary support to both Police Handball and football clubs to carry on with the overall Police mission of ensuring peace and security.
