Police Handball club continues title chase

The Police Handball club beat Groupe Scolaire St. Aloys 37-27 on Saturday to remain the lead contender for this season's league trophy.

Norbert Nzirorera alias Kamarade scored a game-high 12 goals while Gilbert Mutuyimana and Norbert Duteteriwacu put their names on the score sheet seven times each as the law enforcers registered maximum 15 points in five games.

The win kept the Police Handball club second on the table apparently led by GS Kigoma with 16 points after beating APR on Saturday.

Should the Police side, however, win their game in hand against GS Rambura scheduled to be played on June 5, it means that they will claim the first spot on the log and to increase hopes for winning the trophy for the third time in only four years.

The Police coach, Assistant Inspector Antoinne Ntawangayimana thanked his players for "staying focused."

"There was nothing new; it's the same spirit to win each and every game they exhibited even today," AIP Ntawangayimana said.

He further said that the club is in preparation to compete in th peace cup tournament scheduled for June 7th to 8th.
