Men and women of the Rwanda Defense and Security Forces;
1. The year 2019 comes to an end, and we are about to celebrate as we usher in the New Year 2020. I wish to take this opportunity to extend, on behalf of the Government of Rwanda, my family and my own behalf; my best wishes to you and your families.
2. Indeed, I wish to express my gratitude to you, officers and men, who continue to work tirelessly with dedication and determination to defend the freedom, and stability of our people and country.
3. The nation of Rwanda appreciates the invaluable sacrifice you continue to provide as you strive to advance the causes of peace and safety at home and abroad.

2. Professionalism and discipline key to sustainable security, Minister Nyamvumba
The Minister for Internal Security, Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba emphasized the need for police officers to uphold discipline and professionalism as a prerequisite to sustainable safety, security and development.
Gen. Nyamvumba made the remarks on December, 17, 2019 while addressing the ‘Police High Council’ at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru. Read more
3. Rwanda, The Gambia Police forces hold bilateral talks
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza, on November 14, 2019 received his counterpart of The Gambia, Alhaji Mamour Jobe at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Headquarters in Kacyiru.
IGP Jobe and his delegation were in Rwanda for a week-long visit aimed at benchmarking best policing practices for home customization as part of their ongoing security reforms.
IGP Jobe said that learning from each other to equal in policing as African law enforcement institutions will help to be on the same footing in confronting common security challenges.
“Some of our police officers have received training here in Rwanda and we find them to be more professional in their assignments, we want to discuss and learn these quality practices; this is the beginning of our stronger relations ahead,” said IGP Jobe. Read more
4. Minister Shyaka calls for scale up of security and hygiene campaign
The Minister for Local Government, Prof. Anastase Shyaka recognized the impact of the joint partnership between Rwanda National Police (RNP) and the City of Kigali in keeping the capital clean, green and safe.
He was speaking on August, 03, 2019 at the closing of the 8th edition of the Security and Hygiene campaign, held at Amahoro Stadium.
The campaign is conducted by RNP, City of Kigali and its three districts of Nyarugenge, Kicukiro and Gasabo. Read more
5. Road safety should be a choice, says Minister Busingye
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye, said that Rwanda is on course to achieving record road safety levels and that government efforts to save lives on road will not be spared.
The Minister, who was addressing the media on October 24, 2019 at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru, said that the “road safety sector has assumed ownership” but added that “safety on road should be a choice.” Read more
6. RNP facilities commissioned at Gishari
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye, June, 03, 2019, inaugurated the newly constructed facilities at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
The four facilities were constructed in a space one year at a tune of Rwf2 billion. Read more
7. Namibian President commends cooperation between Rwanda and Namibian Police forces.
The President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr Hage G. Geingob commended the “excellent relations” between Rwanda and Namibian Police forces.
President Geingob made the remarks on October, 11, 2019 while presiding over the official inauguration of the new Headquarters for Namibia Police Force in the capital Windhoek.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza attended the inauguration ceremony at the invitation of his counterpart, Sebastian Ndeitunga. Read more
8. Gen. Dallaire pays courtesy call on IGP
Gen (rtd) Romeo Dallaire, on November, 13, 2019, paid a courtesy call to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza at Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru.
RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that Gen. Dallaire's visit aimed at discussing partnership between RNP and his child soldiers initiative. Read more
9. IGP Dan Munyuza joins Martyrs' Day Celebrations in South Sudan
On his third day of the official visit in South Sudan, on July, 31, 2019, IGP Dan Munyuza paid a courtesy call to his counterpart Gen Majak Acek of South Sudan.
The Police Chiefs discussed how to enhance Police-Police cooperation especially in the areas of crime prevention, information sharing, exchange of training and capacity building programmes, sharing expertise and best practice in various fields. Read more
10. UN intermission retreat conducted in Kigali
The fourth UN intermission retreat for Heads of Police Component (HoPC) from all missions across Africa opened on May, 22, 2019 at the Rwanda National Police General Headquarters in Kacyiru to address challenges faced in missions and promote UN best practices. Read more
11. Peacekeeping: RNP conducts FPU rotations
In 2019, Rwanda National Police (RNP) conducted five Formed Police Unity (FPU) rotations.
Three rotations were conducted under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) and other were under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
12. UN decorates Rwandan Police peacekeepers in CAR
The United Nations, on November, 17, 2019, awarded 'Medal of Service Excellence' to 428 Rwandan Police peacekeepers serving under its Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
The decorated officers, constituted three contingents; two Rwanda Formed Police Units (FPUs) and a Protection and Support Unit (PSU), each composed of 140 police officers. Read more
13. Road Safety: RNP launches ‘Gerayo Amahoro’ campaign
The Government of Rwanda, on May, 13, 2019, launched a 52-week road safety campaign to sensitize all categories of road users on traffic rules and regulations so as to promote road safety in the country.
The 52-Week campaign dubbed Gerayo Amahoro (Arrive Safe) is meant to develop and implement sustainable road safety strategies and programs, increase road safety awareness towards mindset change to prevent road carnage. Read more
14. RWANDA NATIONAL POLICE: 19 years of partnership in policing: Towards sustainable safety and better livelihood for communities
On August 17, 2019, Rwanda National Police (RNP) concluded its 2019 Police Month held under the theme: “19 years of partnership in policing towards sustainable safety and better livelihood for communities.”
The month-long community development activities focused on supporting communities and to cement the people-centered policing—a community policing methodology—and raising awareness against high impact crimes.
The Police Month held annually, also supplements the national development agenda and builds strong partnership between RNP and the citizenry in identifying, fighting and preventing crimes. Read more
15. Senior Police officers graduate at National Police College
Thirty senior Police officers from nine African countries, on June, 28, 2019, completed a one year Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) at the National Police College (NPC) in Musanze District.
The officers, who constitute the 7th PSCSC intake are from Central African Republic (CAR), Nigeria, Liberia, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Namibia, and the host, Rwanda. Read more
16. National Police College hold symposium on Peace, Security and Justice
The National Police College (NPC), held a symposium on Peace, Security and Justice as part of its Police Senior Command and Staff Course (PSCSC) programme.
The symposium was held under the theme; "Enhancing Security in Africa: Regional Security in Perspective."
Thirty Police students from nine African countries were part of the 7th intake of the PSCSC. Read more
17. Over 1300 complete Police Basic Training Course
A total of 1342 officers, on June, 03, 2019, formerly joined Rwanda National Police (RNP) after completing a ten-month 'Basic Training Course' at the Police Training School (PTS) Gishari in Rwamagana District.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Johnston Busingye officiated the pass-out ceremony and gave the new officers the rank of 'Police Constable.' Read more
18. KWIBUKA25: RNP commemorate
The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG), Dr. Jean-Damascène Bizimana said that Police officers stand for the principal of impartiality, rule of law and fighting any form of impunity.
He was speaking on April 11, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters in Kacyiru where he addressed hundreds of Police officers as part of the force’s 25th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Read more

Rwandan Police, military and correctional service peacekeepers, on April 13, came together in their respective UN mission areas to mark the end of the 25th commemoration week of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Read more
20. EAPCCO GAMES: Rwanda wins 46 medals
The third edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) concluded on August 31, 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya with Rwanda winning 46 medals in total.
Rwanda, which came second after Kenya in the general classification, won 27 gold medals six silver and 13 bronze.
Rwanda National Police (RNP) scooped a gold medal in handball discipline; best overall in Karate with 12 gold medals, four silver and four bronze.
RNP also topped the Taekwondo discipline with eight gold and two silver in Kumite, three gold in Kata as well as two trophies for the two categories. Read more
21. Police Handball Club crowned ECAHF champions
Police Handball Club was on December, 07, 2019 crowned the East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) senior club champions after edging APR 30-27 in the finals.
The regional tournament kicked off Monday in Kigali bringing together four clubs; Police, APR and Gicumbi, all from Rwanda and Nyuki from Zanzibar. Read more
22. Taekwondo: Police scoops six gold medals in ‘Korea Ambassador’s Cup’
Rwanda National Police (RNP) won eight medals, including six gold, at this year’s Taekwondo Korea Ambassador’s Cup’, which ended Sunday at Amahoro stadium.
The annual Taekwondo tournament, which brings together teams from the region, is supported by South Korea’s embassy in Rwanda. Read more
