Drivers of public transport vehicles and commercial motorcycle operators in Rusizi district have been warned against violating road safety rules resulting into accidents and loss of lives.
While speaking to the drivers and motorcyclist at Rusizi tax park on August 18, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Johnson Sesonga, the District Police Commander warned them against speaking on phone while driving, over speeding and driving while drunk, which he said are the major causes of accidents.
The awareness was part of the ongoing road safety month.
"Traffic rules are meant to ensure safety and security on roads and we expect you to obey them for your own safety and passengers," CSP Sesonga said.
He also warned them against transporting illegal luggage.
“This was a good occasion for us since we are reminded of our role in preventing road accidents.”
Venuste Ngamije, head of Rusizi Transport Cooperative (RTC), who commended Rwanda National Police for the good advices, said.
During the meeting, members formed their own Union, aimed mainly to further discuss road security issues and establishing tough penalties to defiant members.
