RUBAVU: Scrap dealers cautioned against buying vandalized utility infrastructure

The Western Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Hatari cautioned dealers in scrap operating in Rubavu District against working with people, who vandalize utility infrastructure.

While meeting 105 commercial scrap dealers, and dealers in second-hand electronics, the RPC pointed out that some of them have either been arrested or implicated in these criminal activities, which have affected electricity, water and telecommunication lines as well as road signs.

Vandals, he mentioned, after vandalising these utility infrastructures, sell cables, wires and metals, among others, to scrap dealers.

CP Hatari further warned against buying stolen electronics such as mobile phones, television sets and computers while emphasizing the need to adhere to the law and working with the Police to arrest those involved.

"Law enforcement organs and other relevant institutions are working together to bring to justice all those involved in this vandalism, which affects national security and development. Your partnership is also key in protecting public infrastructure," CP Hatari said.

He particularly urged those selling used electronics to follow the regulations, including proper verification and documentation of electronic items they buy.
