Rwanda National Police (RNP) has recovered about 70 crates of beer that were recently stolen from SKOL brewery stores.
The crates were recovered from one a Jean Pierre Twagirayezu, a driver at the brewery, who was also arrested. The theft case was reported to Police by Skol on April 1.
“Based on information we got from SKOL management, we followed the leads that pointed at Jean Pierre Twagirayezu, who was driving one of their distributors,” said Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali.
“The distributor had sent Twagirayezu to transport 500 crates of beer. Twagirayezu sneaked out extra 70 crates and sold them to a beer wholesaler in Kicukiro,” SSP Hitayezu added.
“We are currently investigating to establish who worked with Twagirayezu in loading the extra 70 crates on his truck. We have since returned the crates to Skol while the suspect is held at Remera Police station.”
Reacting to the recovery of the stolen crates, Skol’s General Service and Public Relations officer, Tite Gatabazi thanked the police for its quick intervention when they reported the case.
Twagirayezu will be charged under article 325 of the penal code for embezzlement. The article provides a jail term of between seven to 10 years and a fine of up to 5 times the value of the embezzled property.
