Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) from Nyamasheke District were yesterday urged to step up their efforts mobilizing community against malnutrition as human security hindrance
The call was made during a special Umuganda held in Kitabi Sector which brought together members of RYVCP and officers of Rwanda National Police operating in Nyamasheke district.
Present was the Mayor of Nyamasheke district, Bonaventure Uwamahoro, who led the energetic youth in constructing five toilets, 10 organic gardens (uturima tw’igikoni) and RYVCP also donated goats to venerable families
In his address, the Mayor hailed the role of youth volunteers in community development, social welfare, security and crime prevention. He also challenged them to multiply their efforts in ensuring human security and development with precise focus on fighting and reduction of malnutrition as a concern affecting Nyamasheke district
He said; “You should triple your efforts, sustain and maintain them when it comes to peoples’ well being because human resource is our foundation of development. In terms of security, you should to continue solving the problems affection our people.”
Speaking at the event, the District community Liaison Officer(DCLO), Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Daniel Niyibizi reminded the youth volunteers that the security cannot be achieved when the people are affected with social spheres of life.
“Total safety means every citizen having access to basic needs; our status is by far very impressive but we also need to work harder to sustain what we have achieved and event get more,” said AIP Niyibizi.
He added that having security doesn’t mean only living without crimes, family conflicts and or child abuse; it is also accessing all needs regarding social basic welfare.
The DCLO also challenged the youth volunteers to continue working hand in hand with governmental and nongovernmental institutions in implementing human security and community welfare programs. He added that the youth should be the first in maintaining and owning security matters.
The coordinator of Youth Volunteers, Abdallah Murenzi confirmed that the RYVCP will continue to increase their social security activities to enhance cooperation with governmental organs as means to ensure safe and security of Rwandans in every corner of our country
The participants who attended the community work were urged to be focal points of their neighbors to prevent crime among themselves and their neighbors and to always be vigilant and observant against the people who do not reside in their neighborhoods.
Residents of Kitabi sector and other neighboring Nyugwe forest were told to play their role in sharing information of anything they suspect might hamper security.
