Desire Badesire, Emmanuel Munyentwali and Muhindo Kiyoma, are being detained at Kicukiro Police Station for allegedly brewing illicit local beer commonly known as ‘Kiboko’.
The trio was arrested on September 9, in Kigarama Sector in Kicukiro District.
During their arrest, Police impounded about 2,500 liters of the illicit beer (Kiboko), which they had allegedly brewed. The seized illicit brew was destroyed in the presence residents of Kigarama Sector.
The arrest of the trio came after residents who knew about their criminal activities notified Police in the District.
Badesire, the owner of the illicit brew confesses to the crime and asked to be pardoned. He said he made a grave mistake not to notify the Rwanda Bureau of standards (RBS).
Kiboko, the illicit brew is believed to be manufactured by mixing sugar, wheat, sorghum, and sodium bi-carbonates.
Chief Superintendent Fred Ndoli, the commended residents who availed information which led to arrest of the suspects.
The District Police Commander urged residents to strengthen partnership with security organs in order to arrest those involved in such criminal activities and many others.
Jean de Dieu Kamurase, the Chemist Industrial Inspector for Rwanda Bureau of Standards official in charge of urged those that wish to engage in the manufacture of local beer to first inform and get authorization from RBS.
Kamurase commended Rwanda National Police’s continued efforts in the fight against illicit brew.
