Police in Ruhango district yesterday sensitized and reunited thirty families that were embroiled into domestic wrangles.
The exercise held in Bweramana sector was held in the framework of the ongoing activities to mark the RNP 14th anniversary and the 20th liberation celebrations which started on Monday.
The District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police Angelique Abijuru, while speaking to the families explained that such conflicts will only deviate them from their household development activities and might even destroy what has been achieved.
She noted that the end result include selling of property, fighting and sometimes resulting into death.
“The conflicts between parents will affect children and the suspect in case of assault or murder will be imprisoned. This means children will face the consequences and at times will also be divided with one group supporting either of the parents and conflicts will be sowed,” IP Abijuru observed.
Female spouses cited excessive drinking and aggressive decisions especially concerning property as major cause of conflicts.
IP Abijuru appealed to them to desist from self-justice adding that Police, local authorities and other judicial institutions like Abunzi and courts are there to help them live in harmony.
She challenged them to always sit together as a family and think of what can develop them instead of selfish ends.
Prudence Uhoraho, the in charge of Social Affairs in Bweramana sector urged them to subscribe to Sacco savings scheme and It was a moment of join at the end of the meeting when spouses said to each other “I am sorry…forgive me” as they indicated a sign of unity and to embark on the household development path.

This concept confirms the ideal multi approach system where the police, the public, faith based organizations, leaders at all levels, NGOs and private sector join the RNP to ensure security and safety in the country.
This effective approach has shown a positive impact in reducing neighborhood crime, enhanced quality of life.
