GERAYO AMAHORO: Police moves to curb road accidents caused by cyclists

Cyclists are among the majority victims and cause of road fatalities. Out of 729 fatalities recorded last year, 193 of them were caused or involved cyclists.

In an effort to reverse the trend, Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Wednesday, January 18, rolled out a countrywide campaign targeting commercial cyclists across the country to educate them on safer road usage.  Read more

Man arrested for attempting to cheat vehicle inspection test

Police at Kigali Automobile Inspection Centre (AIC) arrested a man for allegedly violating motor vehicle inspection regulations.

Aime Thierry Nteziryayo was detained on Saturday, January 21, after he tampered with his car air filters so as to pass the gas emission test.  Read more

GERAYO AMAHORO: Taxi-moto operators in Nyagatare tipped on safer road usage

Taxi-moto operators in Nyagatare District were urged to make road safety a culture to save lives and to ensure sustainable road security.

The call was made on Saturday, January 14, by the Regional Police Commander (RPC)-Eastern, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Innocent R. Kanyamihigo, while addressing about 250 taxi-moto operators from Nyagatare, at Nyagatare stadium.

This was part of the ongoing Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign, which aims at influencing behavioral change on road usage from abiding by law to making it a choice and ultimately road safety by culture.  Read more

Fighting trafficking of single-use plastic bags in Burera

Burera District is mapped as one of the major trafficking routes for the banned single-use polythene bags.

Traders warned against tax evasion, bribery

Traders have been cautioned against tax evasion and trying to bribe law enforcements.

The warning follows the arrest of one Elias Niyonsaba, 44, a dealer in timber operating in Jali, Gasabo District, on Tuesday, January 17, who allegedly attempted to seduce Police officers with a bribe of Frw70000 after he was caught for tax evasion.

Niyonsaba was selling timber without issuing the mandatory EBM invoices so as to evade taxes, Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera, said.  Read more

RUBAVU: Police seize over 800 pieces of outlawed skin bleaching products

Two people were arrested on Sunday, January 15, in Rubavu District in Police operations against smuggling and selling of banned skin whitening creams and oils.

At least 813 pieces of assorted banned cosmetics commonly known as mukorogo, were impounded.  Read more
