IGP Munyuza attends Interpol meeting in Benin

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Munyuza and the Deputy Secretary General for Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Isabelle Kalihangabo attended the Interpol 25th African Regional Conference in Cotonou, Benin which started on June 28.

The three-day conference is one of Interpol's regional events that brings together senior officials from member countries to discuss, exchange ideas and make decisions related to advancing law enforcement actions in fighting organized and transnational crimes on the continent.  Read more...

Sports strengthens regional Police cooperation, says DIGP Ujeneza

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza said that sports is one of the features that strengthens Police cooperation among members of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO).

She made the remarks on Tuesday, June 28, while opening a two-day planning meeting for the forthcoming 4th edition of the EAPCCO games, in Kigali.  Read more...

Dog handlers complete bonding training course


Nineteen Rwanda National Police (RNP) dog handlers, on Thursday, June 30, completed a two-month canine course on 'bonding and familiarisation for narcotics, explosive detector and vapor wake.'

Twelve dogs were also taken through the same scientific training conducted in partnership with the Police Dog Center Holland. It is part of the RNP deliberate efforts to build the capacity of its K-9 brigade and to have more specialized sniffers.  Read more...

NYAMAGABE: Two suspected drug dealers arrested


Two suspected drug dealers were on Sunday, June 26, arrested in Nyamagabe District in possession of 773 pellets of cannabis.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Theobald Kanamugire, the Southern region Police spokesperson, identified the suspects as Annonciatha Mukagatera, 37, and Edouard Niyonsaba, 58, who were arrested in Bamba Village, Kavumu Cell of Kaduha sector following a tip-off by local residents.  Read more...

Taxi-moto operators warned against bribery


Taxi-moto operators were cautioned against violating traffic rules and regulations, and attempts to bribe Police officers as means to prevent penalties.

The warning followed the arrest of some commercial motorcyclists, who tried to bribe Police officers after they were caught in varied traffic offences.  Read more...

Suspected impersonator apprehended in Gatsibo


A man in Gatsibo District, Muhura Sector, was arrested for allegedly impersonating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) staff in order to fleece unsuspecting residents promising to connect their houses with electricity.

David Nkotanyi, 25, was arrested on Saturday, June 25, after residents became suspicious of his dealings and reported him to the Police.  Read more...

KIREHE: Duo arrested with 15kgs of cannabis


Police in Kirehe District arrested two people, who are members of the same drug trafficking ring, with 15kgs of cannabis.

Theoneste Uwimana, 30, and Ferdinand Nizeyimana, 28, were apprehended on Wednesday June 29, in Saruhembe Village, Saruhembe Cell in Mahama Sector with a sack of cannabis.  Read more...

RULINDO: Police arrested 8 for vandalizing utilities

Police in Rulindo District arrested eight people for allegedly vandalizing and stealing electricity and water infrastructure.
