COVID-19: Police arrest 13 violators in house party

Rwanda National Police (RNP) has arrested 13 people in City of Kigali after they were found holding a house party and drinking.

The violators were arrested Saturday night in the house of one Prosper Ndayiragije located in Remera Sector, Gasabo District.  Read more

COVID-19: Over 90 caught in bars drinking in Eastern Province

Police and local authorities in the Eastern Province arrested at least 91 people, who were found in different bars drinking.

They were arrested in separate operations conducted on Thursday, January 21, in the five districts of Ngoma, Kirehe, Rwamagana, Nyagatare and Bugesera.

According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern Province, those arrested include 11 bars owners, who were found operating the prohibited business. Others were their customers.  Read more

COVID-19: Police urges public to put movement clearance platforms to good use

As Rwanda National Police (RNP) continue to facilitate residents of Rwanda to access essential services during the lockdown in City of Kigali and movement restrictions in other parts of the country as one of the measures to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic; the force urged the public not to abuse the platforms put in place to assist those seeking movement clearance permits.

RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera said that there are some individuals, who seem to be using the platforms for no good reason, thus affecting others seeking clearance for urgent or emergency reasons.

The movement clearance can be applied through the web platform www.mc.gov.rw or dialing *127# and following the prompts.  Read more

Environmental protection: Police arrest man with 20,000 pieces of plastic bags in Nyagatare

A suspected dealer in plastic bags was on January 21, arrested in Bweya Village of Musheyi Cell, Rwempasha Sector in Nyagatare District with over 20,000 pieces of the outlawed non-biodegradable products.

Niyibizi Damascene was arrested following information provided by the residents about his unlawful business.

Chief Inspector of Police(CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that Niyibizi was allegedly sneaking the polythene bags into Rwanda from the neighbouring Uganda through porous borders.  Read more

ILLEGAL MINING: Three arrested in Ngororero

Police in Ngororero District arrested three men in Muhororo Sector, Rugogwe Cel l in Nganzo village where they were found conducting illegal mining activities.

Ferdinand Ndayisaba, 55, Canisius Dufatanye, 34, and Pascal Hakizimuremyi, 30, were arrested on January 20, following information from local residents about their unlawful mineral exploration.

At the time of their arrest, the trio was found in possession of 10kgs of Cassiterite, which they had already mined.  Read more

COVID-19: Understand and respect new guidelines

The Cabinet meeting Chaired by President Paul Kagame held on Monday, January 18, put in place new strict directives to slow the spread of new COVID-19 infections.

In response to the pandemic surge, especially in City of Kigali, the Cabinet placed Kigali under total lockdown. Movements are only allowed for those seeking essential services such as healthcare, food shopping, banking, among others.

Personnel performing such essential services will, however, first acquire movement clearance permit from Rwanda National Police.  Read more

Anti-Narcotics Unit tightens grip on major drug dealers

Fighting drug related crimes and breaking chains of supply in particular is one of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) key areas to fight lawlessness and further improve safety and security in the country.

As such, the RNP Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has tightened its grip on individuals and groups suspected to be major drug dealers or operating chains of supply. Read more
