PEACEKEEPING: Rwanda National Police to rotate two contingents in Central African Republic

Rwanda National Police (RNP), on Wednesday, April 19, started the rotation of two Formed Police Unit (FPU) contingents serving under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Operations, Vincent Sano, on Tuesday, April 18, briefed the two contingents set to be deployed, at the General Headquarters at Kacyiru.

Rwanda FPU1-9 contingent of 140 officers under the command of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Venant Rubayiza, will replace FPU1-8 in Bangui.

Rwanda FPU2-8 of 180 officers commanded by CSP Jean Bosco Rudasingwa will also replace Rwanda FPU2-7 in Kaga Bandoro, more than 300kms from the capital Bangui. Read more...

PEACEKEEPING: 180 Police officers complete tour-of-duty


Rwanda Formed Police Unit-Two (FPU-2) contingent of 180 Police officers returned home on Wednesday, April 19, after successfully completing their one year tour-of-duty duty under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Commissioner of Police (CP) Denis Basabose received the contingent at Kigali International Airport.

Rwanda FPU2-7, which returned home safely under the command of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) John Niyibizi, was earlier in the morning replaced by Rwanda FPU2-8 commanded by CSP Jean Bosco Rudasingwa.  Read more...

Rwandan Police officer named 'best contingent commander' in Central African Republic


The Police component of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has named Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Vincent B. Habintwari as the 'Best Contingent Commander.'

CSP Habintwari is the contingent commander for Rwanda Protection Support Unit (RWAPSU) operating in the capital Bangui and largely charged with ensuring protection of high profile government and UN officials.

In an article published in the MINUSCA UNPOL magazine--Echos de la Police-- on April 14, it attributed this to the "good performance based on discipline, availability, commitment and professionalism" that characterizes his contingent since its deployment in the mission area on May 20, last year.  Read more...

Anti-smuggling unit bust liquor smugglers


The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (ASOC) department, on Friday April 21, busted a house in Rukiri village, Kabeza cell of Kanombe sector, Kicukiro District which was used as store for smuggled wines and liquors.

The ASOC officers raided the rental house at about 8p.m, where 406 bottles of assorted smuggled wines and spirits, all valued at Frw15 million, as well as 360 packets of cigarette, were recovered.  Read more...

RNP strengthens regional emergency response services


Rwanda National Police (RNP) acquired two more firefighting trucks to reinforce emergency response in the Western and Eastern provinces.

The multipurpose trucks will be stationed in Rusizi and Nyagatare districts.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Paul Gatambira, the Commissioner for FRB, said that this is part of the RNP measures to further improve its services and fast response to emergencies.  Read more...

GASABO: Suspected drug dealer arrested with 60kgs of cannabis


The Rwanda National Police (RNP) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), on Thursday, April 20, arrested a 32-year old man in Gasabo District after he was found in possession of 60kgs of cannabis.

The very severe narcotic drug packed in four sacks were found hidden in the bush in Rukingu village, Kagugu cell of Kinyinya sector.  Read more...

Another suspected thief arrested as Police recovers stolen money


A 20-year old man was apprehended by the Police in connection with stealing Frw2 million from a shop in Nyarugenge commercial centre, on April 15.

Police recovered over Frw1.4 million from the suspect, who was arrested the following day on April 16, in his home village of Akabukara, Umubuga cell of Ruramira sector in Kayonza District.

On Monday, April 17, Police handed over the recovered money to the rightful owner, Antoinette Nyirakanani, at the Police metropolitan offices in Gasabo District.
